A thoughtful start

How to plan a destination wedding that feels like you.

You can begin with an idea. These are the details that help turn it into a trip.

Start with the people, then the place

A beach ceremony and a countryside gathering ask different things of your guests. Begin with an approximate guest count, the airports people will leave from, and a comfortable range for their stay. Compare the whole arrival: flights, transfers, and the distance between rooms and celebration spaces. A place you love becomes a stronger choice when the people you want beside you can enjoy it too.

Look beyond the ceremony photograph

Think about the days around the wedding: a welcome dinner, a relaxed afternoon together, and breakfast before everyone heads home. Ask each hotel which spaces are private, what happens if the weather changes, whether children can stay, and who coordinates the event. Keep the wedding budget separate from flights and guest accommodation so inclusions and responsibilities are clear.

Connect the travel plan with the celebration

A travel advisor can help compare accommodation and guest travel options. Ask who will coordinate the ceremony and local suppliers, since that may be a separate wedding planner or hotel team. Before paying a deposit, confirm dates, room arrangements, event terms, and the local requirements for a legal marriage. Some couples choose a symbolic celebration abroad and complete the legal ceremony at home.

Before you go

Your destination wedding questions, answered.

How do we choose a destination wedding location?

Compare the setting with guest access, available venues, the season, and your budget. Shortlist a few destinations first, then ask hotels about guest numbers, event spaces, accommodation, and a weather backup. A beautiful image alone cannot confirm that a venue fits your celebration.

How early should we start planning?

Begin once you have an approximate guest count and travel window. Ask venues and advisors about your actual dates before setting a timeline: availability, group rooms, supplier schedules, and local marriage requirements can all affect the lead time. Give guests time to understand the travel costs before asking them to commit.

Can we legally marry at the destination?

Requirements depend on the country and your circumstances. Confirm them with the relevant local authority or consulate before booking around a legal ceremony. A symbolic celebration is a separate option; discuss the legal paperwork and ceremony arrangements explicitly with your planner.

Does LOVU book the wedding or collect trip payments?

LOVU helps you discover places and connect with travel advisors. Booking arrangements, contracts, and payments are handled directly with your chosen advisor, hotel, or other travel provider. Agree on each person's role before proceeding.

It starts with what you have in mind.
