Located 60 miles east of Nassau, Harbour Island and Eleuthera are surrounded by clusters of cays and sandbars. All that separates the two is a five-minute ferry across sky-blue waters. Make no mistake: visit one and you’ll want to visit the other.
Once the capital of The Bahamas, Harbour Island is often called the “Nantucket of the Caribbean,” but locals just call it “Briland.” Accessible only by boat or ferry, the seclusion is what makes Harbour Island so special, especially for couples on a romantic getaway!
Hop in a golf cart and go. It’s that simple. You can circle Harbour Island in twenty minutes, cross it in five. But falling in love with this picturesque island town will take you no time at all. You can breeze away an afternoon admiring Bay Street’s harbor views or the quaint New England architecture of Dunmore Town.
Harbour Island is most renowned for its beautiful Pink Sand Beach, located along its eastern Atlantic Ocean side. Stretching for some three-plus miles at a width of 50 to 100 feet, it’s like a romantic postcard come to life. Blush sands cover more than 35 miles of mainland Eleuthera, as well.
Best Time to Visit
Trade winds bless The Islands of The Bahamas with warm weather year-round. Winter lows average a comfortable 70 °F (21 °C) and summer highs range from 80 to 90 °F (26 to 32 °C). Rain comes year-round here but squalls and thundershowers pass through quickly. May and June typically have the most rain, much of it falling in the northern and southern islands.
